We have received notification from the council that Matt Smith intends to dispose of the Rising Sun Pub!! We have another 4 weeks to trigger the moratorium which then gives us 6 months to pull together a community bid to bid for the property!
It's only taken 4 years, but there's light at then end of the tunnel!
Sorry we've been quiet for some time
Hi everyone, sorry we've been quiet for some time; we have been trying to negotiate a way forward. Essentially, Worthy Developments came up with a proposal for us to rent the downstairs of the pub from them whilst they convert the upstairs to flats and rent them out. We feel that the best way forward is to buy the pub, though they do not want to sell to us!
The committee considered the proposal and have rejected it and I have sent a rejection today. They claim that they plan to completely refurbish the pub and find a landlord to run it which would be great, this seems to be dependent upon him getting planning to turn the upper floor into 2, two bedroom, self contained flats. The permission would involve a partial change of use, i,e the residence upstairs would no longer be ancillary to a pub.
This worries us as they may open a pub to make it fail so that then they can get full residential planning... It will be interesting to see what happens; in the meantime, the committee will continue to work behind the scenes to see what other options are open to us.
I am so delighted to tell you that the planning inspectorate appeal has been dismissed and so Worthy Developments have been denied planning finally for conversion to a residential property.
We will keep you posted, let's keep our fingers crossed for the next stage.
Thanks for all your support.
Planning Appeal Decision
An appeal against the planning decision has been lodged by Worthy Developments. Rest assured the Committee will ensure the community is represented and will keep you posted.
